Meditation is an ancient, mind-calming practice. A scientific statement from the American Heart Association in the Sept. 28, 2017, Journal of the American Heart Association states meditation may have a role in reducing the risk of heart disease.
Experts have reviewed dozens of studies published over the past two decades concerning the effects of meditation upon reducing the risk of heart disease. Results are promising in that they found meditation may improve many factors linked to heart disease that include:
- stress
- anxiety
- depression
- poor sleep quality
- high blood pressure
Meditation may also help people stop smoking and has an added benefit in that it is low-cost and poses no apparent risk.
You can "learn" meditation practices by taking classes, some involve the use of yoga exercises or you can watch online videos.
