Pain was reduced by almost 50 percent in the diet-and-exercise group. Researchers concluded you can expect about a 30 percent reduction in pain in about half the people who use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Advil or Aleve. They recommended exercising in a pool if weight bearing was too painful. Researchers continue to test high-intensity strength training saying, "thighs with a lot of fat are a wobbling mass, which puts more stress on the knee."
In the end researchers say if you don't do anything else, keep in mind, to just keep moving. Lack of movement as you age is worse on your health, your independence and your quality of life.
