Understanding Food Marketing Labels: Don't Be Deceived!

Honest Tea Pomegranate Blue Flavored Herbal Tea boasts on its label: "Just a tad sweet." In reality, this drink has about 100 calories worth of sugar, which is a day's limit for women according to the American Heart Association. And it is mostly "added sugar" not even from fruit as the label tries to make the consumer believer.

On the bags of Dove Strawberry and Cocoa Almond label says "Made with real fruit." There are no real strawberries in this product. It is strawberry flavored cranberries. It also says on the label it contains 210 calories. This entire package has in reality 780 calories.

On the label of Chobani Apple Veg Drink you see photos of spinach leaves, cucumber slices and apples. The first ingredient in this drink may be yogurt and the product may seem to be a good way to get your veggies easily, quickly and tasty too. Think again. This drink has more sugar than apple or cucumber puree and more natural flavors than spinach juice.

On the box of Special K Protein Chocolatey Peanut Butter Chewy Granola Bars you will read "4g protein." A food is only suppose to be able to boast about its protein content if a serving has at least 5 grams. In tiny print you will read "Good source of protein, 10% Daily Value or more per 40g (1 1/2 bars). This means you will need to eat 1 1/2 bars to get this good source of protein.

Luna Berry Greek Yogurt High Protein Bar does actually have 12 grams of protein in it just as the label says, however, the protein is mostly from "soy protein isolate" and not the Greek yogurt featured on the box. The Luna is actually a Sugar Soy Protein Bar marketed up very pretty to look like real food. (source: Nutrition Action Health Letter April 2017)

Food manufacturers are most intelligent at marketing their foods to you in the most favorable way for them, to get your money for something they say is in their packages, and looks like is in their packages, and could be something really healthy for you, when in reality it is not.

Deceit is the name of the game for many products on our shelves today and not "good for your health" that boast of high protein or a great way to get your veggies quickly and much more.

Life's Abundance produces a remarkable Protein source as well as a real way to get your veggies easily in their Plant Protein Powder and their Greens Blend.

The Plant Protein comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors.

It is 100% grain-free, plant-based protein powder in a nutrient-rich blend of clean, high-quality proteins including pea, chia, pumpkin, hemp and quinoa.

At only 100 calories, it contains 14 grams of high-quality protein in every serving. For comparison, one-half of a boneless chicken breast, cooked is about 13 grams of protein and 115 calories.
Life’s Abundance Plant Protein is absolutely delicious and you can feel great about drinking it every day, because each and every ingredient was carefully chosen for its quality and safety.

While other protein powders use sunflower oil, we decided not to use this oil because it is high in omega-6 fatty acids, a fat that is much too prevalent in the American diet. Our Life’s Abundance Plant Protein contains non-GMO coconut oil powder, which is a great source of beneficial fatty acids that are easily absorbed. In addition, this health-promoting oil adds to the delicious taste and smooth texture of our blend.

Life’s Abundance Plant Protein is ideal for pre or post workouts, breakfast or whenever you need a healthy boost of energy from protein or a quick on-the-go snack

With a superior taste and texture, it mixes easily with water into a silky smooth, rich and satisfying shake. Add to smoothies, pancakes, baked goods, oatmeal and more for a delicious way to increase protein.
