Is Cinnamon a Good Home Remedy for Control of Blood Sugar?

I love the spice of Cinnamon! Cinnamon has been a folk remedy for various ailments for a long time. One of those ailments is:
Does it improve blood sugar, particularly in type 2 diabetes? Scientists seek to know the answer to this question.
At the present time there is not enough scientific evidence to support routine use of cinnamon to improve blood sugar in diabetes.

There are two kinds of cinnamon:
  • Ceylon cinnamon, more expensive and less common, found mainly in specialty stores and online
  • Cassia, most commonly found in local supermarkets and just about anywhere
The blood thinning agent in cinnamon is "coumarin." We are warned against a high intake of cinnamon as it could potentially cause excessive bleeding in someone on blood thinning medication. Regular intake of high amounts of coumarin could also potentially harm the liver and kidneys. Ceylon cinnamon has lower levels of the courmarin.
Cinnamon is an excellent spice to perk up healthy foods like oatmeal and whole-grain toast. I use one teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon everyday in my oatmeal. You should not use anymore than one teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon per 24 hours.
If you run across a home remedy requiring higher amounts, I would definitely pass it by. Using large or very large amounts of cinnamon to control diabetes is not well-supported by scientific evidence and should not be undertaken. Best advice is to follow proven measures for managing diabetes that includes taking prescribed medications from your trusted medical professional.
Most experts also recommend getting regular physical activity and following a healthy eating pattern. You might also try using one teaspoon of Ceylon Cinnamon in recipes you experiment with using the Life's Abundance Plant Protein powder or in a healthy smoothie drink to get the "potential" benefit of using Ceylon cinnamon plus an extra serving of protein from the plant protein powder. Keep your Ceylon cinnamon to just one teaspoon per day in whatever you incorporate it into, and continue to follow the advice of your personal physician for blood sugar control methods.
Life's Abundance plant protein powder is 100% grain-free, plant-based protein powder is a nutrient-rich blend of clean, high-quality proteins including pea, chia, pumpkin, hemp and quinoa.
At only 100 calories, it contains 14 grams of high-quality protein in every serving. For comparison, one-half of a boneless chicken breast, cooked is about 13 grams of protein and 115 calories.
Life’s Abundance Plant Protein is absolutely delicious and you can feel great about drinking it every day, because each and every ingredient was carefully chosen for its quality and safety.
